Duties


Engineers and technicians in aerospace engineering and operations often perform the following tasks:


  • Consult with aeronautical experts to go through the specifics of the tests and their ramifications.
  • Establish and maintain aircraft system testing facilities.
  • Make and install test equipment components and systems.
  • The ability to operate and calibrate computers in accordance with test and production requirements
  • Ensure the seamless and safe execution of testing processes.
  • Observe and record the results of tests on components and systems.
  • Set up equipment on planes and spaceships
  • Keep an eye on the quality of aviation systems that are manufactured.
  • Before they are placed into service, new aircraft designs are put through extensive testing over an extended period of time. Calibrate test equipment such as wind tunnels and establish the source of faults are common tasks for technologists or technicians. It is possible that they will also write and run computer simulations to evaluate the new designs.


Education Needed


Technicians and engineers in the area of aerospace engineering and operations often have an associate's degree in engineering technology or a closely related discipline. Candidates with a high school diploma or a certificate program may be considered by certain businesses. At community colleges and vocational–technical schools, you may earn an associate's degree or a certificate.


Pay


The median annual wage for aerospace engineering and operations technologists and technicians was $77,830 in May 2023. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $50,050, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $113,970.


Job Projections

  

Employment of aerospace engineering and operations technologists and technicians is projected to grow 8 percent from 2023 to 2033, faster than the average for all occupations.
