Duties

Electrical engineering technologists and technicians often do the following:

• Build electrical prototypes.
• Maintain electrical equipment and build it
• Visit the areas where systems are constructed to better understand the design process.
• Find solutions to technical design difficulties to help create electrical systems.
• Check designs for quality and report findings, if necessary, with suggestions for improvement.
• Prepare schematics and specifications for experimental electronics equipment.

Electrical engineers construct and maintain electrical control systems and equipment, and repair electrical prototypes, components, and assemblies. Components, assemblies, and systems are tested in a simulated environment. They use test data to solve design challenges.

Electronic engineers and technicians often conduct the following tasks:

• Develop basic circuits and design details with engineers' advice.
• Make workable prototypes from a design or drawing.
• Circuitry is built, tested, and maintained using engineering instructions, electronics knowledge, and technical papers.
• Repair or replace any defective electrical components.
• Make coils and terminal boards using bench lathes, drills, and other machine equipment.
• Electronic engineers diagnose and repair equipment. They also calibrate and maintain equipment and systems.
• Comprehending blueprints, schematics, and technical instructions is required to assemble electronics. They also write and record reports on testing procedures, equipment, and standards.

Education

An associate degree in electrical or electronic engineering technology is available at community colleges and technical institutions. ABET-accredited programs include math, algebra, computer languages, physics, and electronics.

The job obligations or industry may require employers to hire individuals with a bachelor's degree. Several jobs need a high school diploma.

Licenses and certifications

Electrical and electronic engineers and technicians may be certified. These optional credentials show the role holder's vast competence. NICET, ETA International, and the International Society for Automation all provide certification (ISA).
